Movement of materials outside the cell through the plasma membrane is known as exocytosis.

Exocytosis:

Exocytosis is a cellular process that is universally present in plants, protozoans, vertebrates and invertebrates. It is a method of transport of biological molecules wrapped in secretory vesicles, from inside the cells to the outside or extracellular space.

These can be hormones or neurotransmitters for cellular communication, growth or polarity. Then can also be signalling molecules, lipids or receptors that are to be deposited at different sites in the plasma membrane.

Exocytosis is called cell vomiting because of the process of removing contents from inside the cell to the outside.
