If heat is liberated in a chemical reaction, then the chemical reaction is said to be exothermic reaction.
EX:
C + O2 = CO2

If heat is absorbed in a chemical reaction , then the chemical reaction is said to be endothermic reaction.
EX:
N2 + O2 = 2NO
