Exothermic reactions transfer energy to the surroundings and the temperature of the surroundings increases. Endothermic reactions take in energy and the temperature of the surroundings decreases.

Two liquids that combine in any ratio to form a homogeneous solution are called miscible liquids.

Example :- Orange juice and carbonated water are two liquids which we can easily find at a grocery store. When we mix them we get a delicious orange juice. Recipe for making this drink is a great example of a chemical property which is miscibility.

Liquids which have little or no mutual solubility are immiscible liquids.

Example :- Polarity is a continuum rather than an either/or value. Pentane is a hydrocarbon with five carbons and has a polarity index of zero. Acetic acid makes vinegar sour, and has a moderately high polarity index of 6.2. Pure acetic acid can mix with polar liquids and some nonpolar liquids such as xylene and toluene, but cannot mix with very nonpolar liquids such as pentane and hexane. Enthalpy keeps these two liquids apart.
