Expansion is the phenomenon of the increase in dimensions of a material due to some physical action on it.
When heat is supplied, expansion of material in length, width or height takes place. Expansion is directly proportional to heat. So, more the heat supplied, more will be the expansion.
Thanks.

When Heat is supplied to metal, it expands because the molecules of the metal gain kinetic energy and the voids or spaces between its particles increase and it expands.
