What is 'EXPANSION OF THEME' ?

An 'Expansion of an idea' is a short composition. You are expected to take the idea embodied in a proverb, a maxim, a quotation, a saying, a slogan, an idiom or the headline of a newspaper report and elaborate on it.

A proverb or a maxim is a short, well-known pithy saying, stating a general truth or piece of advice, e.g., 'A burnt child dreads the fire.' A quotation is a group of words from a text or a speech. e.g. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. A slogan is a short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising some product or idea, e.g. 'Green India, Healthy India.'

Presentation of an Expansion of a Theme/an Idea':

An 'Expansion of an Idea' should have a proper beginning and an ending. The ideas should flow, effortlessly. Do not begin your composition by saying, "The given proverb means that ...'. Let the meaning come through your explanation or the examples and in your summing up.
