An EXPONENT refers to the number of times a number is multiplied by itself.
EX. 2 to the 3rd (written like this 2^3)
means 2×2×2=8. 2^3 =8
2^3 is not same as the 2×3=6

An exponent indicates the number of times the given number is repeated. For instance, 3 to the power of 3 which means 3^3 ie, number 3 is multiplied to itself thrice or three times. So answer of 3^3= 3x3x3=27.
