hey dear..!!!! here is your best answer as you want....
ANSWER=A light source that is not a point is called extended source.eg a linear source or a planer source.Now to do optics of such source we assume that these light sources are made up of large number of point source..Now each point is a source of sinusoidal wave so to find say diffraction of non point source we superimpose all these sine waves with appropriate phase difference .So we are actually superimposing the amplitudes.Wave fronts are actually the locus of all those points who are in same phase.eg the wave front of a line source would be cylindrical etc.
