What is extinct species
Answers
Answer:
Extinction is the termination of a kind of organism or of a group of kinds, usually a species. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of the species, although the capacity to breed and recover may have been lost before this point
1) Extinct species:- The species of plants and animals which are not found now but once lived on the Earth are called extinct species. Millions of years huge dinosaurs lived on the Earth. Scientist believe that our earth cooled suddenly and dinosaurs could not adjust to the sudden changes in climates. So, all of them died and now have become extinct. There are many more theories regarding the extinction of animals. Some other extinct species:- Dodo bird, Nilgiri Holy, Cry pansy.

2) Extinct in wild:- When a species no longer exists in its natural habitat and is known only to survive in captivity, it is said to be extinct in wild. For example:- The pink-headed duck and cheetah have become extinct in wild from our country.
3) Critically Endangered species:- Species that are at extremely high risk of becoming extinct are listed in extremely endangered species. For example:- Balearic shearwater duck is an extremely endangered species. The Malabar large-spotted civet and pygmy hog are some critically endangered species living in India.
4) Endangered species:- Species that are at high risk of getting extinct, in near future, due to decline in their number and a drastic change in habitat are called endangered species. For example:- Asian elephant, golden mole, pink pigeon etc.
5) Vulnerable species:- Species that already exist in low numbers and may become endangered if the causative factors like habitat destruction, environmental disturbance or illegal hunting continue to operate are called vulnerable species. For example:- Hippopotamus, polar bear etc.
6) Endemic species:- Endemic species are those species of plants and animals that are found exclusively in a particular geographical area. For example:- The Ganga river dolphin, Asiatic lion, lion-tailed macaque etc.
7) Threatened species:- In "Red list", all species listed under the categories of critically endangered, vulnerable and endangered are together described as threatened species.
