The main causes for war in srilanka are:-

1.) Majoritarianism was adopted in sri lana.
2.) In it, the sinhalas (majority) was given all types of rights and the srilankan tamils and indian tamils who were in minority were deprived if all the rights.
3.) The tamils revolted but the majority government did not let them get their rights and fundamentals.
4.)The sinhala community was provided with all the facilities like in schools, colleges, job places, etc. whereas the tamils were always neglected.
5.)This lead to social division of srilanka and thus resulted in the civil war.

Srilanka civil war is a results of rival and competing political aspirations of Sinhalese and tamil of sri lanka. being the majority Sinhalese got political power to govern the Country after independence while Tamils saw this as a lost of their political influence on governance
