Food corporations of India
The Decentralization of functions to state in relation to civil supplies and other commodities drastically reduced the erstwhile functions of FCI in toto.As of now the main functions of FCI with respect to the NFSA 2013 act are
1) Procuring Rice, wheat, pulses and other commodities as specified by the government from time to time.
2) Movement of procured grains from surplus to deficit/needy regions according to the necessity.
3) Maintaining buffer stocks in all the strategic regions of the country in order to overcome adverse circumstances.
4) Market interventions in times of supply and demand mismatch.
5) Providing MSP to the farmers with the guidelines prescribed by government.
6)Other miscellaneous functions such as export and import of grains,PDS along with respective state governments,etc..
These are the main functions of FCI in the present scenario.
