in the federal system there are two types of government Central Government and state government the central government solves the national problem and state government solve local problems actually in this type of system powers are divided among Central authority and the different units of that Union there is one government for the entire country and different provisions have different governments both levels have their own powers some of the main feature of federalism are given below



1 Written constitution=written constitution is essential in a federation in the sense that both the central and the state should be definite and about their sphere of action

2 Divisions of powers=the powers of the government in a federation are distributed between the central and the states

3 independent judiciary =the presence of an independent and powerful Judiciary is most essential in a federation .

4 bi cameralism = some peoples are of the opinion that the legislature in a federation should be bi cameral

5 double citizenship =in some Federal state citizens enjoyable citizens and individual is a citizen of the state as well as he is season of the whole country

Federalism is a system of government in which the power is divided among the Central Authority and various Constituent Units of the country.

The Features of Federalism are:

  • There are 2 or more levels/tiers of government
  • Each tier has it's own Jurisdiction
  • The existence and authority of each tier is constitutionally guaranteed
  • Fundamental constitutional provisions can not be unilaterally changed by one tier
  • Courts have the power to interpret the constitution
  • The highest court acts as the umpire if disputes arise between different levels of the government in the exercise of their respective powers
  • The source of revenue for each level is clearly specified to ensure it's financial autonomy
  • It safeguards and promotes the unity of the country, while at the same time, accommodate regional diversity
