The feeder economy is the economy which feeds another for production of their goods. Before independence India was feeding the industries in Britain with the raw materials for manufacturing of goods

Explanation:

  • The industrial units in Britain were expanding and they needed raw materials for manufacturing of their goods. India was used as a feeder economy for supplying the raw materials for the industries in Britain.
  • The British forced the Indian farmers to grow only those crops which they required as raw materials in their country. Therefore Indian farmers were forced only to grow crops that were required by the industries in Britain
  • The Indian economy suffered majorly during the British rule since they were only used as a feeder economy for the British. There was no economic growth or development  in the country due to these reasons.
