Fermentation is a metabolic process that converts sugar to acids, gases, or alcohol. It occurs in yeast and bacteria, and also in oxygen-starved muscle cells, as in the case of lactic acid fermentation.

Fermentation can be defined as a very important metabolic process that takes place in a particular temperature condition wherein an organism carries out the conversion of carbohydrate, such as starch or a sugar, into an alcohol or an acid. eg. Alcohol is formed by conversion of sugar with the help of organism yeast.
