In physics, a chiral anomaly is theanomalous nonconservation of a chiral current. In everyday terms, it is equivalent to a sealed box that contained equal number of positive and negative charged particles, that when opened was found to have more positive than negative particles, or vice versa.

The parity anomaly in 2n + 1 dimensions, and the Dirac index density in 2n + 2 dimensions can be understood in terms of the physics of fermion zero.
