Fertilization is the process of fusion of male and female gamete which form zygote

The process of fusion of male gamete ( sperm ) with the female gamete ( egg ) is known as fertilization. This process results in the formation of zygote.

Now there are two types of fertilization :-

1) External Fertilization

2) Internal Fertilization

Now what does these types of fertilization means ?

1) External Fertilization - In this type of fertilization, eggs are fertilized outside the body of the female parent. Only some species exhibit this type of fertilization. For eg. :- Frogs and fishes.

2) Internal Fertilization - In this type of fertilization the fusion of gametes takes place within the body of the female parent and formation of zygote takes place in the body of the female parent. For eg :- Humans and animals like dogs, cats, lions etc.
