Figure of speech are plainly defined as saying one thing in terms of something else. Eg: when it rains heavily your mother would says "you'd better take your jacket; its raining cats and dogs out there." 
 She may not be actually meaning that animals are falling out there. She actually meant it is raining heavily.
   different types of figure of speech are  : simile, metaphor, and personification.
