File Extension:

A file extension or just extension is a suffix at the end of the file name used for identifying what kind of format the file is. For example, in the file name "instructions.txt", "txt" is the file extension indicating that it is a text file or document.

MS Word Window Components:

Diagram: See attachment for the diagram.

Following are the explanation of the basic components of the MS Word window components:

  • Title Bar: It is a bar at the very top of the window displaying the document name as well as the window name.
  • Quick Access Toolbar: It is the component at the very top left corner of the window that allows the user to have access to common and often used commands and tools.
  • Ribbon: It is a newly added component that started from 2007 version to so on. It is located just below the Quick Access Toolbar and consists of tabs including File, Home, Design, Insert, Layout, References, Mailings, Review, View and followed with a help box. The tabs can also be adjusted.
  • Working Area: It is the actual page at the center focus where the user types and formats the document.
  • Status Bar: It is located at the very bottom of the screen. It displays the total number of pages and word count, adjustment of zoom and viewing options of the document.

hope it helps...
