filtration is simply the process of the separation of insoluble substances from a solvent

for filtration, you have to pass the solution from a filter paper or a muslin cloth. the substance which remains on the filter paper or the muslin cloth is the residue whilst the filtrate is the substance obtained from the process.

if you mix milk with chalk, fill a bottle half way, tie it to a rope and spin the rope in a high speed. after opening the bottle, you can see that the chalk pwder is separated from the milk. This process of separating insoluble heavey substance with a solvent by the use of Kinetic energy or by spinning it for some time in an axis is known as centrifugation
