It is a glowing, bright gaseous part of the fire that can be seen (in most cases) when a fire is set. The colour and temperature of the flame depends on the composition of the material that is being burned. This material is called 'fuel'. Formed due to exothermic reaction.

Answer:

A flame (from Latin flamma) is the visible, gaseous part of a fire. It is caused by a highly exothermic reaction taking place in a thin zone. Very hot flames are hot enough to have ionized gaseous components of sufficient density to be considered plasma.
