                                         Floating respiration

  • Floating respiration is a type of cellular respiration or exchange of gases which utilizes carbohydrates or fats as the substrate for respiration.
  • The substrate is usually obtained from the storage materials which get hydrolysed.
  • This respiration is a continuous process throughout the life of a cell.
  • Glucose and sucrose are the carbohydrate substrate forms and fats get converted to fatty acids and glycerol to act as substrate to enter the oxidation pathway during floating respiration.
  • Floating respiration makes the cells healthier and does not produce any toxic by-products.
