A food chain only follows just one path as animals find food.
Example: A hawk eats a snake, which has eaten a frog, which has eaten a grasshopper, which has eatengrass. A food web shows the many different paths plants and animals are connected. eg: A hawk might also eat a mouse, a squirrel, a frog or some other animal.

Answer:
In any ecosystem there are many food chains and, generally, most plants and animals are part of several chains. Different food chains exist together. All these form a food web.
ex: The grasshopper eats grass, the frog eats the grasshopper, the snake eats the frog and the eagle eats the snake... grass ---> grasshopper ----> frog ----> snake ----> eagle
