It is called Equine Nutrition. Usually grass is given to cattle and COB ( Corn, Oats , Barley) to horses.

(A) The feeling of dairy cows:-
The feeding system of dairy cows must contain three important components:-
1. Roughage (Dry fodder) :- are rich in crude fiber constituting cellulose, hemicellulose. Roughage are obtained from maize or jowar,Kadbi,wheat straw or rice straw, Sugarcane tops etc.
2.Green Fodder:- are juicy in nature and have better digestibility, they form bulk of the feed and are rich in energy and proteins.Examples:- Green Lucerne, Berseem etc.
3.Concentrates:- are rich in protein, energy and are palatable. They are made up of cereals,cereal by products, cotton seed cakes,liquid molasses etc.
4.Minerals, vitamins salts must be supplemented in above three to make the diet balanced.
(B) Feeding of horses ( single stomach in contrast to cow with four parts of stomach, rumen,reticulum, omasum and abomasum) :-
(1) In India many of the regions don't have the luxury to let our horses graze grass around the year, So Hay is the best choice of feed for horses. Vitamins, Minerals must be supplemented to compensate the shortfalls.
(2) Grains:-
Oats has been the traditional grain fed to horses. However, horses may also be fed small amount of corn.
REMEMBER:- Don't feed Brans like Wheat bran and Rice bran in diet of horses which may cause colic (a fatal disease of horses)
(3) Concentrate :- Mixture of beet pulp, flax seeds, molasses for energy and flavor.
(4) Salt and minerals in forum of bricks be kept in the stable. So that during the day, horses may lick these and their diet become balanced in all respects.
