Lok Sabha is the house of the people as the name suggests . The people of India directly elect their representatives as members of the Lok Sabha on basis of universal adult franchise, in which all the people 18 years have to vote without any discrimination of gender, caste, colour, race etc. The constitution provides for a maximum of 552 seats in the Lok Sabha out of this 530 are directly elected from different states and 20 representatives can be elected from the union territories. They are held at least at least once every 5 years . The presiding officer of the Lok Sabha is known as the speaker.

The rajya Sabha is the upper House of Parliament. It is also known as the council of states . Membership of rajya Sabha is limited to 250 members out of this 238 members represent the states and union territories and remaining to 12 are chosen by the President of India for their expertise in specific fields of art, literature, science and social service . The rajya Sabha is a permanent house ,it can never be dissolved. The presiding officer of the rajya Sabha is vice president.
