Forced vibrations occur if a system is continuously driven by an external agency. A simple example is a child's swing that is pushed on each downswing. Of special interest are systems undergoing SHM and driven by sinusoidal forcing. This leads to the important phenomenon of resonance.

What is forced vibration ?

Answer:-Vibration of a body which takes place under the influence of an external force acting on it .

The frequency of vibration changes with change in the frequency of applied force.

the amplitude of vibration depends on the frequency of applied force.

Factors affecting the forced vibration:-

  • The frictional force
  • The external periodic force
  • The restoring force

Some of the examples of forced vibration:-

_____________________________

(the example contains explanation:-)

  • When a person plays a guitar string by his finger the vibration in them cause forced vibration in the air in closed in its hollow box.
  • When the stem of a vibrating tuning fork is pressed against the top of a table the turning fork producers forced vibration in the table tops. The table top has a much larger vibration area then turning for so the forced vibration of the table topper send forth a great energy and the person was a loud sound than the pursuit by the tuning fork.
