Aniline and its ring-substituted derivatives react with nitrous acid to form diazonium salts.This diazonium salt can also be reactedwith NaNO2 and phenol which produces a dye which is benzeneazophenol, this process is called coupling.

- Compounds with general formula R2C=NR' are called Schiff's base.

- Aldehydes/ketones react with amines to form imine (Schiff's base).
R-CO-R + R'-NH2 --> R2C=N-R' + H2O

- Aniline reacts with acetaldehyde to form Schiff's base.
C6H5-NH2 + CH3-CHO --> C6H5-N=CH-CH3 + H2O
