when sodium absorbs moisture from air it catches fire and gets burned.....so sodium is always kept on water so it doesn't react with the oxygen present on air
tge required reaction is:-
Na+O2-----------Na2O

Answer : The sodium peroxide is formed when sodium absorbs moisture from air.

Explanation :

When the sodium metal react with atmospheric oxygen to give sodium peroxide as a product.

The balanced chemical reaction will be,

2Na+O_2\rightarrow Na_2O_2

By the stoichiometry we can say that 2 moles of sodium metal react with 1 mole of oxygen to give 1 mole of sodium peroxide as a product.

Hence, the sodium peroxide is formed when sodium absorbs moisture from air.
