what is fractional distillation

it is a process to separate the different components of crude oil. crude oil is strongly heated upto 400 degree Celsius in a tower. diffrent components of crude oil boil at different temperatures. heavier products settle at bottom and lighter materials evaporate upwards. hence different materials are separated from top to bottom of the distillation tower.
