fractional distillattion is the seperation of miscible liquids

fractional distillation relies on the liquids having different boiling  points

we use this method for the extraction of caffeine from tea

after boiling the tea with water and sodium carbonate we pour this in a sepratory funnel which is nothing but a apparatus used for fractional distillation and add some dcm. since the water has  lighter dncity than dcm it floats over the dcm. then we open the knob to remove the bottom layer.  you can see this process in youtube

so pretty much it is just a type of distillation where we sperate liquids which dont mix like the above ecpirment or lets say oil
