Fractional distillation :

the process of separating the parts of a liquid mixture by heating it. As the temperature goes up, each part in turn becomes a gas, which then cools as it moves up a tube and can be collected as a liquid

.

chromatography :

the separation of a liquid mixture by passing it through a material through which some parts of the mixture travel further than others

Fractional distillation :-

1)Distillation in absence of air .

2) It is a physical process.

3)Two or more liquids are taken .

4)Nature of liquid :-Homogeneous

5)Fractional distillation column is used .

6)The difference between the boiling points of the liquids are less than 25K.

Definition :- The physical process by which two or more homogeneous liquids are separated in absence of air such that the difference between their boiling points is less than 25 K is called Fractional distillation.

Chromatography (Paper chromatography )

Definition :- It is a physical process used to separate ( identity ) those solutes that dissolved in the same solvent.

Note :- Kroma in Greek means colour .

Since , this technique was first used for separation ( identification) of colours , so the name was given Chromatography .

1)Physical process with highly scientific skill based .

2)Mixture are taken in quite small amount.

3)Factors :

1)Affinity (adsorption)

2)Retention factor

3)Gravity , density

4)Viscosity .
