FRAGMENTATION :
fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction in which new organism are formed from pieces of the parent's body. each fragmented part develops into a separate individual. fragmentation is seen in many organism including some types of fungi, plants, annelids, flatworms and sea stars. organism like spirogyra which are made of filaments, or long, ribbon like structure, also reproduce this way. the filament grows as the cell that constitute it grow and divide. sometimes, the filament breaks into two or more parts and each such part grows into an individual.
REGENERATION :
Regeneration is a modified form of fragmentation. organism such as Hydra, earthworms, flatworms and starfish can regrow , or regenerate , lost or damaged parts of their body. these organism can also give rise to new individual from their broken body parts. there are other organism which can regenerate certain broken parts. For example, a lizard can grow back it's tail and a grasshopper it's legs, but they cannot give rise to complete new individuals.
