What is free energy change when 1.0 mole of water at 100c and 1 atm pressure is converted into steam at 100c and 2 atm pressure?

R = 8.314 J/molK

T = 100 °C = 373 K

P1 = 1 atm

P2 = 2 atm

Gibbs free energy change is given by formula-

∆G = nRT ln(P2/P1)

∆G = 1 × 8.314 × 373 × ln(2/1)

∆G = 8.314 × 373 × 0.693

∆G = 2149 J


Free energy change for process is 2149 J.
