During the 1700's the French government was in high debt as well as crops failed to grow. During this time the french government tried to restore the economy through unpopular methods such as heavy taxation, the poor people of the french society were the targets of it but the aristocrats and the clergy were enjoying special benefits. This made the people unhappy and riotous movements started to take place this was later know as the French Revolution.
