French is an official language of Europe

It descended from the Vulgar Latin of the Roman Empire, as did all Romance languages. French has evolved from Gallo-Romance, the spoken Latin in Gaul, and more specifically in Northern Gaul.

French is a Romance language of the Indo-European family, modern French is derived from Latin.

French was discovered when Gaul was conquered by the Romans in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, the Gaulish language came under attack and hence the true meaning of a Romance language as to speak in Roman fashion. So, French evolved from Gallo-Romance(Latin spoken in Gaul).

French is considered a Romance language. With its origins in Latin, French is widely regarded to be among the most beautiful languages in the world.
