Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other.

Here \: is \: the \: answer \: of \: your \: question

`\textbf{Friction}`

The force which opposes relative motion, between two surfaces is a friction.

`\textbf{Causes of friction}`

1. Old view :- According to it all the surfaces however smooth they are, that have irregularities in the form of a hills and valleys.

When one such surface tries to move over another then interlocking take place. To overcome these interlockings an excess force required. This excess force is friction.

2. Modern view :- According to it when one surface is in contact of another surface the intermolecular, intermolecules take place. To overcome these intermolecules and interlockings an excess force is required which is called friction.

`\textbf{Types of friction}`

1. Static friction :- The friction offered by the surface against the applied force when the body is at rest.

2. Limiting friction :- Friction offered by the surface against the applied force when the body is about to move.

3. Kinetic Friction :- Friction offered by the surface against the applied force when the body is moving.

Hope \: it \: helps \: you.
