friction is the force resisting the motion of two surfaces in contact. it is always exerted in a direction that opposes the motion. example it helps in walking and the rolling of a ball it also helps in writing there are plenty examples .

Friction is the resistance of one surface to another that moves over it.
It generally takes place when two bodies are in contact.
Example: A moving ball comes to rest which is rolled on floor. The reason being the friction acting between the two bodies.
