friction is a force which is produced when at least two substance touches each other.

For example when a rocket is launched there is friction produced when the rocket goes up while the air repels it and causes friction. Or we can say when we roll a ball after some time it will slow down and eventually stop because it is going against the soil and air which are going in opposite direction towards the ball.

Since there is no air or anything in vacuum or in space, thing once move never stop.
