Here is your answer ➡

What is friction???

Friction produces unnecessary heat leading to the wastage of energy. The force of friction acts in the opposite direction of motion, so friction slows down the motion of moving objects. Forest fires are caused due to the friction between tree branches.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Friction???

Advantages :

  • Being able to walk across a surface without slipping. This is static friction.
  • Writing on a piece of paper with a pencil or a pen.

This is sliding friction. * Driving a car across the road surface. This is

rolling friction. * Jumping out of an airplane with a parachute.

Disadvantages :

  • Friction produces a lot of heat in various parts of the machinery and this leads to wastage of energy as heat.
  • Opposes motion, hence more energy is needed to overcome friction.
  • Noise production in machines is irritating as well as leads to energy loss.
  • Forest fires are caused due to friction between branches of trees.
