Answer:

An opposing force

Explanation:

Friction is an opposing force which resists the motion of a body

*Ways of Reducing Friction*

- By increasing the speed of the object

- By using any lubricant

- By reducing the weight of the object

The force which always opposes the motion of an object over another object in contact with it , is called friction .

  • Friction always occurs between two object contact with each other .

For example , when we push a heavy object on the floor , the friction acts between the body and the floor !!

★ Methods of reducing friction

In some cases , friction doesn't help us . In fact we are needed to reduce it so that we can work easily .

As , friction working between the parts of Machines causes wear and tear between them and doesn't allow them to work smoothly .

so , friction can be reduced by smoothing the surface and it can be done through

  • Polishing the surface
  • Using lubricant ( like oil or grease ) on the rubbing surfaces .

Friction can also be reduced

  • by using wheels to move objects
  • by using ball bearings between the moving parts of machines .

★ Laws of friction

First law of friction → : The amount of friction is proportional to the normal force exerted between the surfaces.

Second law of friction → : Friction does not depend on the area of contact between the surface .

Third law of friction → : Friction force also depends on the nature of the contact surfaces .
