It is another cause of physical weathering. In the middle latitudes temperature may be above freezing point during daytime and below freezing point during night .Water which is present in the joints and fissures in the rocks ,gets frozen into ice during night . Freezing of water results in expansion in volume and the fissures get widened.Frost action shatters even the strongest rocks to form angular pieces with sharp edges or corners
