It is a hormone which makes muscle contractions in the uterine wall during labour thus causing delivery pain and helping mother to give normal delivery. It also stimulates myoepithelial cells of mammary glands to eject milk during breast feeding. It also helps sperms to reach the fallopian tubes for fertilization by contracting uterine muscles. It is found in excess whenever a female is pregnant and due to this the mother starts loving the baby developing inside her womb. It is also released during mating in both males and females. Due to this it is also called 'love hormone' since it basically induces feelings of love and care in us.

Hope this helps you.
