What is Gametogenesis? 2. What is cryptorchism? 3. What is inhibin? Mention its functions. 4. What are the accessory glands of the male reproductive system? 5. Write the components of Semen.
Answers
Answer:
1. Gametogenesis :- Gametogenesis is the production of gametes from haploid precursor cells.
Or in other words Gametogenesis is the process in which cells undergoes meiosis to form gametes .
2. Cryptorchidism :- A condition in which one or both testicles fail to move from the abdomen, where they develop before birth, into the scrotum.
3. Inhibin :-Inhibin is a protein secreted by the Sertoli cells in men and by the granulosa cells in women.
4. The accessory glands of the male reproductive system are :- seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and the bulbourethral glands.
5. The components of Semen are :- Semen contains citric acid, free amino acids, fructose, enzymes, phosphoryl choline, prostaglandin, potassium, and zinc.
Explanation:
1) Gametogenesis :- Gametogenesis, the process by which gametes, or germ cells, are produced in an organism. The formation of egg cells, or ova, is technically called oogenesis, and the formation of sperm cells , or spermatozoa, is called spermatogenesis.
Function of Gametogenesis are :-
- Gametogenesis refers to the formation of germ cells. It is of two types:- spermatogenesis and oogenesis. Spermatogenesis helps in the formation of sperm while oogenesis refers to the formation of the egg. These germ cells help in the continuation of life.
2) Cryptorchidism :- A condition in which one or both testicles fail to move from the abdomen, where they develop before birth, into the scrotum. Cryptorchidism may increase the risk for development of testicular cancer. It is also called as undescended testicles.
Function of Cryptorchidism are :-
- The first function is it produces spermatozoa, the male gametes.
- Second, it synthesizes testosterone, the principal male sex hormone.
3) Inhibin :- Inhibin is a protein secreted by the Sertoli cells in men and by the granulosa cells in women. It inhibits the synthesis and release of the follicle-stimulating hormone in the pituitary gland and reduces the hypothalamic LH - releasing hormone content.
Function of Inhibin are :-
- The function of inhibin in ovaries of women is , it acts primarily to inhibit the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone by the anterior pituitary gland.
- Inhibin is a hormone secreted by granulosa (female) and Sertoli (male) cells in response to FSH and its major action is the negative feedback control of pituitary FSH secretion .
4) The accessory glands of the male reproductive system are :-
seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and the bulbourethral glands. These glands secrete fluids that enter the urethra.
5) The components of Semen are :-
Most of the fluid in semen is made up of secretions from male reproductive organs. Semen contains citric acid, free amino acids, fructose, enzymes, phosphoryl choline, prostaglandin, potassium, and zinc.
