In population genetics, gene flow is the transfer of genetic variation from one population to another. If the rate of gene flow is high enough, then two populations are considered to have equivalent allele frequencies and therefore effectively be a single population.

  • It is migration of the breeding individuals fr one population to another of the same species.
  • The removal of alleles from one population or addition of alleles into another population is called gene flow or gene migration.
  • Gene flow decreases the differences between populations and thus prevents natural selection.
