In a cell there is a part called nucleus which is surrounded by a double membrane called nuclear membrane. The nuclear membrane also surrounds a dense, semi-fluid substance called nucleoplasm. The nucleoplasm contains a network of chromatin fibres. Each chromatin fibres contains thread like structures called chromosomes. The chromosomes carry genes which are the carriers of parental characters to their parents to their children or offspring.
