Basic Concept required to build up a general format for an AP:
- An AP is an abbreviated form for Arithmetic Progression.
- In an AP the difference between it's consecutive terms remains constant.
Let's try and build up a general format for an AP.
★ Let first term of our general AP is 'a'
★ Let the constant difference between it's consecutive terms is 'd.
Thus, It's first term = a
It's second term = a+d
It's third term = a+d+d = a + 2d
It's fourth term = a+d+d+d = a + 3d
and so on........
Hence, from the above pattern it is clear that a general format for an AP is:
AP = a, a+d, a+2d, a+3d, .........., a+(n-1)d.
Additional Information about an AP:
- nth term = a + (n-1)d
- Sum of n terms = n/2{2a + (n-1)d}
- Sum of n terms = n/2(a+l), where l is last term of the given AP.
