the type of isomerism where iSomers possess the same structural formula containing double bond and differ only in respect of arrangement of atoms or groups about the double bond .
these i somers these isomers occur when there is restriction to the rotation somewhere in the molecule.
FOR EXAMPLE
2-butane can be written in two isomeric forms ,
Cis isomers are those in which the two similar groups are on the same side of the double bond
Trans isomers are those in which the two similar groups are on the opposite side of the double bond.
