Consider the sequence...
 
2, 6, 18, 54, . . . . Here, each term in the sequence is 3 times the previous term. And in the sequence 1, −2, 4, −8, . . . , each term is −2 times the previous term. Sequences such as these are called geometric progressions, or GPs for short.

Geometrical progression is a series in maths in which the ratio btw the the two numbers are same.
For example,
2,4,8,16.....upto n terms.
So here 4/2=2
And also 8/4=2
So the common ratio is same and hence such series are called Geometrical progression.
