Geothermal energy is an energy source that derived from the heat of the earth. The heat must be near the surface so it can be extracted.

The ideal geothermal system had to have several aspect, which is:

Heat source (its obvious, right?)

Permeable rock. Rock that fluid can flow through and also containing that fluid.

Fluid. The energy from heat source is extracted by extracting the fluid.

Impermeable overlying rock. This is important to conserve the heat so it doesnt escape.
