  • Geothermal power plants do not burn fuel to generate electricity, so the levels of air pollutants they emit are low.
  • Geothermal power plants emit 97% less acid rain-causing sulfur compounds and about 99% less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel power plants of similar size.

Geothermalpower plants use heat of the Earth to generate electricity. This heatenergy of the Earth is known as geothermal energy.

Whenthere are geological changes, the moltenrocks present in the core of the earth are pushed to the earth’scrust. This forms regions of hot spot. Steam is generated when theunderground water comes in contact with these hot spots forming hotsprings. This trapped steam is used to generate electricity in thegeothermal power plants.
