Explanation: Tropism can be referred as growth in response to any factor(i.e.stimulus). and growth can be two types positive and negative

positive- when growth is towards stimulus

negative- when growth is opposite to the direction in which stimulus is acting

Geotropism (geo =gravity or earth )

so geotropism is growth towards centre of earth(point from which gravitational force acts ) or gravity or in downward direction.

so growth of stem is negative geotropism(in upward direction )

growth of roots is an example of positive geotropism

as shown in the figure
