XCF. GIMP's default graphics file format utilizes a ‘.XCF’ extension. It is, in fact, the best type of format that can be used if an image has to be modified in the near future.
If an image is saved using a ‘.XCF’ extension, one can stay assured that all the image data like paths, channels, layers, etc. can stay preserved exactly the way that in which it was created.
